• Wednesday's 6:15 PM Mass and confessions move to St Columba's while the boiler at St Brigid's is replaced.

  • Our Lady Star of the Sea is closed all Saturday while the floor is resealed; the 9:15 AM Mass on Sunday goes ahead.

  • All Saints falls on Sunday this year, so the usual Sunday times stand. Daylight saving ends overnight: set clocks back an hour on Saturday.

  • Masses for the dead at 8:30 AM and 7:15 PM at St Columba's. The November Book of Remembrance is out by the font in all three churches.

Funerals

The funeral director calls us first; then a priest or the deacon visits the family to plan the readings and music.

Notice

Call us before fixing the date

Ask

Fr Declan Moore or Deacon Luis Alvarez

Mourners in the front pews of St Columba's beside a coffin covered with a white pall.

Call the funeral director, then us. Most families ask the funeral director to contact the parish, so the date of the Mass is agreed before the death notice is printed.

Plan the liturgy. Fr Declan or Deacon Luis visits the family at home within two days to choose the readings, the music and who will read. A short word of remembrance is possible at the end of Mass.

The three moments. The Vigil, usually at the funeral home the evening before; the Funeral Mass at any of the three churches; and the Committal at the grave or the crematorium.

When. Funeral Masses are Monday to Saturday at 10:30 AM or 11:30 AM. They are not celebrated on Sundays, on holy days of obligation, or from Holy Thursday to Easter Sunday; a funeral liturgy outside Mass is possible on those days.

Costs. The parish asks an offering of $200, which covers the organist and the sacristan. Nobody is refused a funeral because they cannot pay it.

A question? The parish office answers.
