• Wednesday's 6:15 PM Mass and confessions move to St Columba's while the boiler at St Brigid's is replaced.

  • Our Lady Star of the Sea is closed all Saturday while the floor is resealed; the 9:15 AM Mass on Sunday goes ahead.

  • All Saints falls on Sunday this year, so the usual Sunday times stand. Daylight saving ends overnight: set clocks back an hour on Saturday.

  • Masses for the dead at 8:30 AM and 7:15 PM at St Columba's. The November Book of Remembrance is out by the font in all three churches.

Fr Declan Moore, through the parish office

A bride and groom laugh as a ring sticks during their wedding at St Brigid's.

Call before you book anything else. At least one of you should be Catholic, and the diocese asks for six months' notice. Nothing is fixed until you have met Fr Declan: the reception hall can wait a week.

Meet the priest. A first conversation at the presbytery, then the FOCCUS questionnaire, which you each fill in online and talk through with a married couple from the parish.

Do the preparation course. Pre-Cana is one Saturday, 9:15 AM to 3:45 PM, run four times a year in the parish hall. There is also an evening on natural family planning.

Gather the documents. A baptism certificate issued within the last six months (ask your parish of baptism), proof of First Communion and Confirmation, two affidavits of freedom to marry signed by people who have known you since you were young, and the state marriage license, obtained in the 60 days before the wedding.

The church and the day. Weddings take place on Saturdays at 11:30 AM or 2:30 PM, not on Sundays or in Holy Week. The parish asks a church offering of $275; Joe Okafor at the organ, and the choir if you want it, are booked and paid separately.

A question? The parish office answers.
